Revivalism
Kamal Aboul Megd

Kamal Aboul Megd is a contemporary Egyptian thinker who represents the moderate (Wasatiyya ) Islamist position. In Towards a Contemporary Islamic Vision: A Declaration of Principles (Cairo, 1981), he writes:

"Islam is God's blessing in the same way as water and air are. One gets from it that which fulfills the needs of the age without the domination of a mediator, whether an individual, a group, an institution, a history, or a heritage...Faith and disbelief, obedience and sin are matters determined by the individual human's intention, his behavior, and his action. No group has the right to practice guardianship on people's minds and behavior in the name of Islam...

Islam sees in both men and women the 'essence' of civilization, the unity of creation. In the balance of duties and evaluation, Islam differentiates between them according to organic and psychological differences. Therefore, it clearly establishes the principle of absolute equality between them in terms of human respect and responsibility..."
